After several decades of operation, some components of GSI’s accelerator complex are being renewed, including this spiral buncher for extremely low RF frequency (36 MHz). Because of the low frequency and the corresponding long wavelength, the support stem of the drift tube is wound into a spiral. This spiral has a coaxial cooling water guide on the inside up to just before the drift tube. What was soldered 30 years ago was in this case subjected to a galvanic manufacturing process. This additive method allows extreme flexibility in the shape design with corresponding potential for optimising the high-frequency properties.<\/p>\n
