Review of Extreme Optics Workshop (ExOp 2026) in Bukarest

Three inspiring days filled with insightful presentations, engaging discussions, and valuable new perspectives are behind us. We are delighted to look back on our participation in the Extreme Optics Workshop (ExOp 2026), held from June 15–17, 2026, at the ELI-NP research center in Măgurele, near Bucharest. 📍

The workshop brought together leading experts from academia and industry to discuss the latest advances in high-power laser systems, precision optics, and innovative manufacturing technologies. 🔎

As a specialist in ion beam technologies, precision optical machining, and customized special-purpose machinery, ExOp provided an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas with international experts on topics such as high-LIDT optics, plasma optics, nanolaminates, diffraction gratings, and next-generation optical solutions for extreme laser applications.

We were particularly pleased to see how closely the workshop topics aligned with the technologies and expertise that NTG has been developing for industrial and research applications for many years. The inspiring discussions and diverse perspectives once again highlighted the importance of close collaboration between science and industry in advancing the next generation of high-precision optical systems.

NTG at IPAC’26 in Deauville

Recently, our NTG team attended IPAC’26, the 17th International Particle Accelerator Conference, held in Deauville, France.

IPAC is one of the key annual meeting points for the international accelerator community, bringing together researchers, engineers, institutions and industry partners to exchange knowledge on accelerator science, technology and future developments.

For us as a mechanical engineering company, the conference offered valuable insights into current projects and technological trends, as well as many fruitful discussions with experts, partners and potential customers.

We especially appreciated the personal exchange throughout the event. Conferences like IPAC are not only important for technical and business discussions, but also for maintaining relationships, building trust and creating new connections across the industry.

A big thank you to everyone we had the chance to meet in Deauville. We return with many positive impressions, new contacts and promising conversations to follow up on.

Complex RF feedthrough for UHV applications

This assembly demonstrates what a high-performance RF feedthrough / RF coupler window really requires:
The component must combine high-frequency capability, vacuum tightness, and mechanical stability — even under thermal and process-related stress.

The technical challenge starts with the material combination:

• Alumina ceramic (Al₂O₃) for electrical insulation
• OFHC copper for RF-compatible conductivity and high thermal performance
• Stainless steel for structural integrity and vacuum-compatible integration

The real complexity, however, lies in joining these materials.
Creating a reliable ceramic-copper-stainless steel assembly requires precise control of:

• material compatibility
• metallization
• joint gap design
• temperature profile
• process stability
• leak tightness and repeatability

A key feature of this project is the circumferential brazing joint.

While comparable applications have often relied on end-face brazing, NTG can now also reliably realize the far more demanding circumferential brazing process.
The advantage of circumferential brazing lies in the joint design across a continuous peripheral interface. This can provide important design and manufacturing benefits, especially in terms of load distribution, joint stability, vacuum tightness, and integration into complex assemblies.

In particular, brazing ceramic-to-metal joints is one of the most demanding disciplines in advanced joining technology. Different coefficients of thermal expansion and strict vacuum requirements leave no room for compromise.
This is exactly the kind of complexity we master at NTG.
